Buró is a design fair that promotes new and great local brands that represent the best of Colombian design and creativity. More than a fair, Buró is an experience that enhances the richness of the country and its diversity.
The fair was created back in 2013 from an initiative to support and provide a platform for young national entrepreneurs and designers who wanted to consolidate a brand and turn their products into a profitable business that is well established in the national market. Feria Buró takes place twice a year (July and December) and in the past, it has showcased over 400 brands that vary from products like fashion, jewelry, and art to even gastronomy.
When and where
Over the past 3 years, the fair has taken place at Gimnasio Moderno, but this July, it will be at Unicentro Shopping Center’s event area right below the parking spaces. From July 10th to the 14th, starting from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, all the attendees will be able to become part of one of the biggest design events in the country. Entrance tickets cost $3 USD/$10,000 COP and they can be purchased at the event. Also, keep in mind that kids under 15 can get in for free.
What can you find?
The fair has a lot of new brands and some other already established local ones organized in categories like accessories, jewelry, fashion, art and more. It also has a big food section with a really nice selection of cool restaurants catered to any type of palate. It is ideal to arrive early and take a lunch break in the venue so you can gain enough strength to keep on shopping.
You can also bring your pet to the fair and buy something for it in the pet section or even check out the cool toys made for kids, but mostly loved by grownups.
To keep in mind
This is one of those events in Bogotá that people really look forward to, therefore it is always busy and crowded. To make the most out of it, here are some of my top tips:
- Use public transport. You don’t want to spend loads of time looking for a parking space and then having to pay a ridiculous amount that could be used in buying that amazing chocolate bar you saw.
- Bring your own shopping bag. I can guarantee that you are going to buy more stuff than you think, so better to have your own bag(s) to carry all your purchases.
- Avoid coming in big groups. You will eventually get lost and won’t have enough time to go through the brands you like.
- Bring some cash with you. Even though most of these places accept card payment, sometimes their connection is slow so I recommend you take around $60 USD/$200,000 COP.
I think Buró is a cool event that you shouldn’t miss. Even if you don’t buy anything, it is a really nice and inspiring thing to see a lot of entrepreneurs selling their products at a big event that focuses on promoting local talent and design. Personally, I never miss the chance to go and see what people are doing and I try to at least buy one thing to contribute to young talent. Things like this are what make Bogotá such a cool city, so don’t let the chance to be part of something like this and other cool stuff like music festivals, flea markets and book fairs pass you by!
