Let Bogotá’s Botanical Garden hug you with its green arms

Botanical Garden

Huge trees, colorful flowers, and birds that fly freely around the garden. Also, a pleasant silence and the sensation of being surrounded by nature itself. I’m talking about the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden in Bogotá.

There are moments when we just want to escape from the rush of the city. Have you felt that? If so, Bogotá has a place that will make you feel reconnected with yourself and with nature. A place where you can lay on the grass to see the wide blue sky. A place where the birdsong or the silence will be the soundtrack. What’s this place? The fantastic José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden, also known as the Bogotá Botanical Garden (Jardín Botánico de Bogotá).

Every time I go there, I feel like I’ve got a shot of pure air and nature! This is a must-see in Bogotá and there is more than one reason to visit it.

Flowers and trees

I must be honest: although I like being immersed in nature, I don’t always pay attention to the little details, like the petals of a flower or the differences between certain plants. Well, that’s the Joanna outside of the Botanical Garden because, in this place, I’m all about the details. It’s impossible not to realize the unique beauty of every orchid, the special exuberance of each rose, or how the top of every palm is different from one another. If you want to feel inspired, the Bogotá Botanical Garden with all its flowers and trees is sure a great place to connect with the muses!

The waterfall

The waterfall is a must at the Botanical Garden! It’s great for photos and videos (thinking in terms of social media is valid too), but it’s even better for those who calm down with the sound of water. If you want to treat yourself with a relaxing moment, please don’t miss it.

Workshops, courses, and exhibitions

How do you photograph nature? How do you draw nature? Or do you want to learn a thing or two about ornamental gardening? At the Bogotá Botanical Garden, you can take workshops and courses that will help you interact in a better way with the environment through entertaining activities.

Being a spectator is also worth it! You can attend musical performances, exhibitions of bonsai or orchids, for instance, expositions of art, and literary picnics. The Bogotá Botanical Garden always has plans for everyone; you just have to find the one that fits you.

The Botanical Garden at night

Every now and then, the Botanical Garden lights up and welcomes all visitors that want to visit it at night. Cultural activities, music, and nature are some of the main dishes of this magical meeting.

Information for nature lovers:

Do you like learning about plants, flowers, and trees? The José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden has two really cool digital tools for you: the Herbario JBB and the Plataforma de Nombres de las Plantas de Bogotá. The first one offers you the pictures and information of the plants that they have collected at its herbarium. The second one allows you to look for a wide variety of flora found in Bogotá; you can find them by their scientific and common names.
