Tacos are delicious, they come in the perfect small size, and they are easy to mix and match. No wonder they get so much hype! With so many options, knowing which taquerias to go to may be a bit of a challenge, so I have reduced it to a handful of options for absolute must-eat, best tacos in Bogotá.
In Zona T (Carrera. 13 #85-13) you’ll find my first recommendation, Tacos Presidente, which is a simple and modern restaurant, ideal for a chill lunch or night out with friends. They offer a wide variety of tacos (which have a soft corn tortilla), tostadas (which have a crunchy corn tortilla) and costras (which have a soft corn tortilla with grilled cheese). My personal favorites are the Chocinita Pibil (pulled pork) and Barbacoa (lamb). The best part is that after choosing your meal, you can indulge in all the additional sauces and veggies you want. If you are still in the mood for more once you are done with the mains, they have a list of desserts including some amazing churros.
Price-wise, they have a combo of two costras and a taco for $26.000 pesos ($7.50 USD approx.). If you want to save up a little or get more for your money’s worth, go on a Tuesday when they have a two-for=one deal until 8 pm.
In Mexico, tacos are traditional street food and aren’t considered anything fancy. That is why Renata is a small taco place with a corner-store, street-food vibe. They now have three locations in Bogota – two in Zona T (Carrera 14 #85-22 and Calle 82 with Carrera 13) and another more towards the north (Calle 116 with Carrera 19a). The cool thing about this place is that they focus on the food and the origins of it.
Getting a seat might be a bit of a challenge, but even if you can’t, they also have high top tables you can stand at and trust me, it is totally worth it. They offer tacos and tortas (sandwiches) and if you want, you can turn your tacos into costras by getting them with grilled cheese. All the options are good, but the eggplant taco is something you might not be able to get in other places, so it is worth trying. Also, they have four different ajís (spicy sauces) that are amazing. One of the best tacos in Bogotá for sure!
Polanco is a small taco joint in Carrera 11 #98-07. It has two spaces – an interior area with small tables, and a terrace with a larger table that faces a park. A colorful interior design and the use of patterned tiles make this place perfect for a sunny day.
The fact that Polanco made the cut for this article means that good tacos are a given. If you want, you can get three of them with a side of esquites (traditional corn with cheese) and a beverage for $22.500 pesos (about $6.50 USD). But if you want to try something different, their burritos are also amazing and so is the price at just $15.000 pesos (about $4.50 USD).
Pantera started as a small taquería in Quinta Camacho and it quickly became famous thanks to its Tacos de Chapulines, meaning Grasshopper Tacos. Yes, you read correctly GRASSHOPPER Tacos. They are as exotic and weird as they sound, and don’t worry – it is normal to not have the best first impression. But after adding some chili sauce and lemon, you will be thankful you got them. They are a little salty, but definitely a worthwhile crunchy experience.
Their original location is in Quinta Camacho (Carrera 10a #69-22), but now they have three other locations: one along Parque el Virrey (Calle 88 #13a-43), and another close to Centro Comercial Andino (Calle 77a #12-26). They have for sure one of the best tacos in Bogotá!
Bonus: Cocina Abierta
Cocina Abierta is a new emerging as a new dining concept in Bogotá. On the top floor of a five-story building facing the park, Cocina Abierta is a food hall with table service. It has a wide variety of areas ranging from bars to cozy tables by the fireplace. This modern dining experience is a must for any foodie. It combines five different restaurants, offering Mediterranean (La Despensa), Arab (El Arabe), Mexican (Pantera) and American (Bicono) gastronomy.
